APARRI, CAGAYAN\u2014The learners of barangay Toran,\nAparri, Cagayan have a new classroom but instead of being located inside the\nAparri School of Arts and Trades campus, it can be found inside their family\ncompound and their classmates were their relatives and neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school-in-a-compound aims to improve the learners\u2019\nacademic performance through collaborative learning as they answer their\nmodules. This also aims to reduce the stress felt by students in the distance\nlearning modality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monitoring team of the school consisting of\nadvisers and subject teachers, who visited the learners on the first week of\nclasses, said that they were surprised upon seeing students living in a\ncompound studying together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome of my students told me that they miss having\ntheir classmates around. I suggested to them that they can study with their\nrelatives since most people in their barangay are kins. I never expected that\nthey will take my suggestions to heart and study by group.\u201d Mrs. Rogely\nCastillejo, a grade 7 adviser revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One parent of the school Mrs. Mely R. Bitauag said she\nsupported this set-up because students can help each other in understanding\ntheir lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have six students who study in our house. All of\nthem are my nieces and nephews. Studying by group enabled them to share ideas\nwith each other. Moreover, they can also share among their group learning\nresources like tablets, cellphones and internet connection.\u201d Mrs. Bitauag said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause of the pandemic, I now understand the plight\nof teachers. I cannot imagine how they were able to teach 50 to 60 learners at\na time. Here in our house, I only help 6 learners in their lessons, yet I\nalways feel exhausted at the end of the day. I really admire the teachers for\ntheir sacrifices.\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, another parent of the school Mrs. Marivic\nAcasili also shared her thoughts about the school-in-a-compound set-up.\nAccording to her, studying alone can be very boring at times that is why she\ninvited some of her neighbors to study together with his son Prince Maverick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a teenager, sometimes my son got bored in studying\nalone so I am glad that he had study buddies now. They help each other in\nanswering their modules. Whenever they do not understand their lessons, I\nalways lend them my phone so they could search the internet or call their\nsubject teachers.\u201d Mrs. Acasili said.#<\/p>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
